The Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education provides students with the qualifications, skills and experience that employers seek in the sector and provides a platform for a fulfilling career in sports coaching and teaching. Alternatively, students can go on to complete a full degree or further qualifications.

Your course has three core components:

  • Academic studies
  • Work experience and professional practice  
  • Vocational studies*

*Both as part of the curriculum and as optional studies

You will need to be at least 18 years of age on 1st September, 2019.

Individual offers may vary, however you will normally need:

  • A minimum of 48 UCAS points, or be in possession of a relevant Level 3 qualification
  • 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above including Maths and English. Functional Skills Maths or English at Level 2 is accepted as an alternative

Plus one of the following:

  • A minimum of 48 UCAS points from at least 2 A Levels or relevant vocational equivalent for example;
  • BTEC Extended with Pass / Pass / Pass (48 points)
  • BTEC Diploma with Merit / Pass (48 points)
  • BTEC 90 Credit Diploma*
  • BTEC Subsidiary Diploma*
  • BTEC Certificate*

*Only in combination with other accepted qualifications


The Tomlinscote Vocational Centre offers an inspiring environment to learn and achieve your foundation degree.

The purpose-built education setting offers excellent teaching, study and sports facilities. It has been the home of SCL’s Sports Education Academy for over 10 years. This centre of excellence has a long-standing track record for producing top quality sports coaches.
