At Woking Football Club we aim to develop each player to reach their full potential with the hope that they will eventually achieve First Team standard. To be able to achieve this outcome, it is vitally important that we recruit only those young players with outstanding football ability.
The Academy prides itself on its growing reputation and the atmosphere of the club which enhances a positive learning environment. We provide a comprehensive technical training programme, which has a guided repetition style of coaching where players are exposed to a number of technical sessions on a regular basis.
Matt Howard was joined Woking FC in 2005 and was appointed as Academy Manager and Head Coach when Graham Baker took over the running of the First Team in 2009.
Matt’s coaching career started out helping at Corinthian Casuals before getting an opening at 20 with Gerry Murphy as part of the Fulham system. This involved working with Nescott College, linked to the club, before Matt graduated to running the South East Department overseeing a team of coaches and training camps.
At 24 he became First Team manager of Chessington United, leading them to their highest points total and league placing. Matt also became Assistant Manager at Corinthian Casuals as well as Academy Manager at Wimbledon.
Now in to his fifth year as Manager of the ever-expanding Woking Academy, Matt has lead the U18's side to The FA Youth Cup 2nd Round twice against League opposition, and there’s been four League titles won alongside two cups.
The Football Academy will be based at Urnfield, Downside Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU4 8PH
