Roque Nchaso, a 17-year-old centre back who is involved with the Foundation's SCL Education programme, has been chosen to travel with a mixed U18s and U23 squad to Hong Kong for the HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens on 26-28 May 2017.
Jim Hampsheir, Senior Academy Integration Officer, is absolutely delighted for Roque. He spoke to whufc.com and said:
After joining the SCL programme, Roque was invited to train and play for the Elite 2nd Chance Squad who train at the Academy Training Ground at Chadwell Heath.
Roque came onto the programme as a striker, but after a few training sessions and matches I offered him the challenge of changing his position and becoming a central defender, a challenge that he took with both hands. During many training sessions and matches, which are regularly watched by West Ham Academy Director Terry Westley, U18 coaches Steve Potts and Mark Phillips and many others, Roque regularly impressed with his performances.
After discussions between Jim, Terry and Mark, Roque was identified as a good addition to the squad flying out to Hong Kong. Roque reported to Chadwell Heath on Tuesday morning, where he enjoyed lunch with the squad and received some words of advice from Reece Burke.
All of us at West Ham United Foundation wish Roque all the best out in Hong Kong!
