Ilkeston FC can today confirm that Lewis Walker has completed the move to Sky Bet Championship side, Derby County.
Riding high in the Sky Bet Championship and pushing for automatic promotion to the Barclays Premier League, Derby County beat off several Premier League clubs to secure the services of 17 year old Walker.
Walker is the latest in the list of Ilkeston FC academy players to make it into the professional game, with Che Adams joining Sheffield United, Akil Wright and Ash Hunter joining Fleetwood Town and Rai Simons move to Chesterfield FC.
Walker’s move follows less than a month after academy team mate, Rhys Dolan made the move to League One’s Barnsley FC.
Walker made his mark at Ilkeston FC during this season’s superb FA Youth Cup run. In his five appearances he scored six goals, with two of them coming against Shrewsbury Town in the Second Round.
His showing in the FA Youth Cup led to him being called up to Andy Watson’s First Team Squad, making his debut when he came on as a second half substitute in the 2-1 win against Grantham Town at the New Manor Ground and making his full debut in the 1-1 draw with Stocksbridge Park Steels in the FA Trophy.
Walker made six first team appearances in total (four substitute, two starts) and scored one goal.
Everyone at the New Manor Ground wishes Lewis all the very best for his future.
